GSE rentals needed to update a winch within its rental fleet to bring it in line with current health and safety standards (LOLER, PUWER). The winch updated was one of its side-scan winches built around 25-30 years ago.
The client required the following:
Winch to be fitted with an electrically driven level wind.
A larger capacity barrel.
A new winch frame was supplied incorporating forklift pockets/lifting ears, certified for lifting at sea.
A level-wind design including all electrical and structural elements.
Re-conditioning of the original components where possible to allow the upgrade to be made in a cost effective way whilst ensuring only tested and reliable components where re-used.
What we did was:
All hydraulic connections, were replaced.
The winch frame was redesigned to fit the new level wind and it’s control panel.
The hydraulic motor was overhauled, internal inspection of the pistons, and a complete set of seals.
The oil the tank was entirely remade.
All re-usable components were accurately measured and modeled with the use of 3D design software together with the new components and pieces needed to be added.
The system was cleaned, flushed and pressure tested.
Static and Dynamic load tests were made, checking brake holding capacity and pull.
Documentation package for the complete modified winch developed, material Certs and complete manufacturing and test records compiled.
The new winch is tested both for dynamic line pull and brake holding capacity after finally assembled. Guards are also fitted as per the required standard.
The awesome clients we've had the pleasure to work with!
